If only my parents knew this at the time
To pass time during the day, I listen to the radio from the internet (I also class podcasts as being a form of internet radio). I get most of my podcasts from the twit network. One of the podcasts that I listen to is about parenting in the digital age and is called Jumping Monkeys. They often have various popular parent bloggers/site owners come on the show to talk about their site and things of interest to them. On one of the most recent ones had the owner of the ParentHacks website which has a lot of good ideas about what to do with kids.
One good idea that they mentioned on the show was that if you go out to a place (such as DisneyLand) you should write your mobile number in permanent marker on your child’s stomach! A very good idea in my opinion.
When I was younger this would have come in very handy. On a holiday to Austria, we were on a day trip to Innsbruck and walking through the main square. For some reason, I had become slightly separated from my parents and for want of anything better to do, I just grabbed the hand of the nearest man. Unfortunately this man wasn’t my dad! Mum and dad did notice that I was holding onto a strange man’s hand and quickly retrieved me.
I don’t know what they would have written on my stomach given this was in the days before mobile phones!
