Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Esther
Happy birthday to you.

Esther is 4 to-day.

It’s quite amazing really, to think that 4 years ago, I was sat in a hospital with Ruth holding our newborn baby. At the time she didn’t have a name yet, we had thought previously about what we wanted to call her and had come up with a few ideas. As it turns out, we didn’t choose any of the names we had thought about.
The reason we chose Esther was because at all the scans during the pregnancy, she had either been hiding her face with her hands or keeping her legs tightly closed so that we couldn’t see whether she was a boy or a girl. When she was eventually born (rather long labour), she had her hand over her head (which contributed to the length of the labour). It was after this last bit of hiding that we chose Esther, which is related to the Hebrew verb ‘to be hidden’.
Anyway, Esther is now 4 and turning into a beautiful little girl (not so little any more as she keeps telling us). She is very much the mother of our other two daughters and can get quite upset when we treat her as a little girl instead of the mummy that she really wants to be!
