My year, My life
Mummy and Daddy came into my bedroom this morning singing a funny song. I wasn’t quite sure what all the fuss was about, but the song had my name in it and mummy and daddy said that I was one. I’m not sure what that means either because there has only ever been one of me, but mummy and daddy were excited. Anyway to celebrate me, I thought I would write about my life.
One year ago to-day, I was all cosy and warm. Then things got a bit uncomfortable and I was cold. It was alright though because someone put on a heater and I could suck my thumb and I saw a friendly looking man with a beard. (I later found out that he was called daddy). I met lots of other people soon after that, one of them was called mummy and she gave me food and cuddled me and was really quite nice to me and has been since then. I like mummy. Then after sitting in a warm place for quite a while, mummy and daddy put me in a funny contraption with a handle and took me outside (ooh, it was bright, so I closed my eyes) and then put me in another thing and I couldn’t see anyway, but I still had my eyes closed. Soon afterwards mummy and daddy came to see me and told me we were home. I didn’t know what home was, but they were excited so I opened my eyes.
Anyway, I wasn’t very good at doing things back then. Oh, I was good at sleeping. I was allowed to practice lots. But mummy and daddy got quite upset sometimes when I didn’t want to practice anymore. I don’t know why they were unhappy, but nevermind. I learned that I had a sister, Esther, and she like me lots. She was always happy to see me and she always wanted to cuddle me and play with me. I like her.
Some time later, I found out that I could do something that mummy and daddy call ’smiling’. I don’t know what this is, but they pulled funny faces at me and showed me all of the white things in their mouths. I thought it would be fun to do that, so I did. They did it more. It was lots of fun. I like to smile.
One day, I also found out that I could sit up. It was very exciting because I was quite bored laying on my back. I think that mummy and daddy tried to get me to turn over and do something called ‘crawling’, but I didn’t like it. I liked sitting up, mummy would often pick me up. I like mummy.
Then one day, I thought, I know, I want to go and see what mummy is doing. I went to see her. She was very excited. She said that I had ‘crawled’. I don’t know what she means, but she was very excited. I also learned to laugh. It was lots of fun because mummy and daddy would laugh at me, and I would laugh at them, and they would laugh some more, and I would laugh some more. I like laughing. I practice when people can’t see me, but they always seem to know that I have been practicing. I know this because I can hear them laughing. They must be very clever.
I have just been learning to stand. It is quite exciting, but I get a bit scared and like to hold onto things. I have found the most wonderful toy in what mummy calls the ‘kitchen’. She keeps saying ‘not the bin, not the bin’. I think she must be learning a new word because she keeps saying it. She always sounds so stern when she says it though. I like to say ‘du du dud ududu’. It’s a good thing to say. Mummy and daddy keep saying ‘duckduckduckduck’, but I don’t think they can say the word quite right like I do! I think that I will start to stand without holding onto things soon. I have been praciticing when mummy and daddy aren’t looking. I think sometimes they have caught me at it, but I always sit down quickly just in case they have seen me.
Time for bed now. I think tomorrow I will be two. But we’ll just have to see how many of me are in bed in the morning.
